Dear Jon Klassen

Dear Jon Klassen,

We love your books. they are so funny!

We read Extra Yarn, I Want My Hat Back and This Is Not My Hat.

Extra Yarn was a serious book. Annabell might have found magic yarn. The most important part, in our opinion, was that she made people sweaters and made people happy!

I Want My Hat Back and This Is Not My Hat are really funny and we like them. They made us laugh.

This is our thinking from This Is Not My Hat.

We love your books very much! We can't wait to read The Dark and Sam And Dave Dig A Hole! We predict that the boy will get lost in the dark. We predict that Sam and Dave might dig to China.

We like your illustrations!

Sincerely,
 Mrs. Zig's Class

2D Shape Fun

We've been working on mathematician language for 2D shapes this week.

We're using words like vertices (instead of corners), sides (a line segment, or short line), and attribute (the words we use to describe the shapes we're working with).

To practice these words there is lots of hands on fun going on!

We're taking pictures of shapes, and naming their attributes with Pic Collage.

Please visit both Mrs. Peterson's & Mrs. Zig's class Kidblogs to see other creations that students have made! We're making shape art, then using Skitch to label the shapes.

Here's an example from Rodrigo.

Playing a very cool shape puzzle game, click here to play Shape Construction on ABCya.com

There's also alot of creating with pattern shapes!

What We Learned About the Moon

We have learned SO many interesting facts about the moon and space this week, and answered many of our questions!

We've been drawing and writing about our learning.

Then turning our thinking into projects we can share.

Check out these videos we created today to share our learning!

Be sure to see our rocket ships and moon phases out in the hallway!

Moon Fluff and A Space Shuttle

We've been very busy blasting off to space lately!

Here's some of our latest ...

A rocket ship! Thanks to Mrs. Jimenez for turning our box into a ship! We're adding the details.

Phases of the moon -
Yesterday they did the oreo experiment in science and today we made the moon phases with moon fluff (1/2 cup of glue and 1 1/2 cups of shaving cream)

Then we used the extra to write bossy r words like star, germ, bird, and short.

Interperting Data

We're working on composing and decomposing (adding and subtracting) with data in math. We've been collecting data, and analyzing it.

Here's the hard work and great thinking from yesterday. Hover over the pictures, so you can click on a microphone and listen to our thinking about the data we collected.

We used ThingLink, Pic Collage and AudioBoom to create this work.

100 Days Smarter

We're 100 days smarter!

Each student drew a self portrait using the MoMA Art Lab app, then recorded one of their favorite things they learned this year with ChatterPix!

Here's our fabulous video!
